Welcome to Cassandra’s Children
Mutual Aid, Education and Activism for a Better World
Who We Are & What We Do
Cassandra’s Children is a small, volunteer-led 501(c)3 non-profit organization based in San Antonio, TX, with our Board members scattered throughout the Country. Our mission is to help people–especially those within marginalized populations–via a combination of mutual aid, education, and promotion of non-violent activism. We wish to offer help and hope for all those working to survive and thrive in this current economic and political climate.
Cassandra’s Children will offer free education on how to live and find joy during economic downturns–as well as how to prepare for an uncertain future. We will provide grant-based financial assistance to qualifying individuals on an as-needed basis. The organization will also support and promote non-violent, collective Progressive activism as a way to affect political and social change.
With this three-part mission, the Board of Cassandra’s Children hopes to make a small difference in our little corner of the world, while leading with love and collective action.
A Note from our Executive Director
The idea of Cassandra’s Children was born in February of 2025 in the Skylines of BlueSky, as my fellow Democrats and I were reeling from the shock and awe of 47’s first 30 days. A mutual friend expressed their fear that they would quite literally die if the promised cuts to America’s social safety nets were implemented, and it was then I decided I needed to do something to help protect my friends, as well as other people in marginalized communities..
I recruited a bad-ass team of women with the same desire to help make a difference, and the skills to make it happen. And from February until the present day, we have worked to make Cassandra’s Children a reality. It’s been slow going, as our team is wholly comprised of volunteers who have things such as jobs, and kids, and pets, and other issues that keep them from being able to focus on Cassandra’s Children full-time, but much like the fable of the tortoise and the hare, we know that slow and steady wins the race.
But our vision remains, despite the setbacks. Within the next few months, we hope to have the Cassandra’s Children website fully functional with guidance on how to survive and thrive in challenging times. Some of the educational sections planned, and currently being written, include tips on how to grow and preserve your own food, how to stock your pantry and freezer, backyard chickens, how to make soap, a creative enterprise guide, and, a little further down the road, K-12 Homeschool syllabi to teach our children how to think critically, compassionately, and how to view the world through the eyes of a global citizen. And that’s just some of what we have planned.
But it’s not just about education and self-sufficiency with Cassandra’s Children. Within the next few months we intend to implement a Direct Assistance fund where people in need of financial help can submit applications to our grant program. We also intend to help promote peaceful activism such as how to get involved in local politics, how to volunteer with local, regional or national non-profits to help make a difference in your corner of the world, to ideas such as “Shop Less. Shop Local” and more. More information on these aspects of our mission coming before the end of the year..
So here we are, with hearts and minds full of dreams to help others, and a website so skeletal it’s counting down the days to Spooky Season.
But then, aren’t we all?
In Solidarity,
Tracey Ferraro
